Sri Dharmasthala  Manjunatheshwara College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad, affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, is the first and only Institute of North Karnataka to get accreditation for all its courses by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) New Delhi in 2002

From its humble beginning in 1979 with 3 undergraduate programmes in Civil, Mechanical  and Electrical & Electronics Streams, , it has grown into one of the nationally acclaimed premier Engineering Colleges of the country, (31st in the top 50 Private Engg. Colleeg of India, Outlook June 11, 2007) with 7 UG programmes and  03  PG programmes in the advanced field of Digital Electronics, and  Engineering Analysis and Design in the stream of Mechanical Engineering by the time completion of  Silver Jubilee. Seven departments of the Institution have been recognized as Research Centres, offering Ph.D, by the VTU and nearly 30 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D over here.

The guiding spirit and the driving force for all the progress and achievements of our institution is our Founder President Padmabhushan Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, a man beyond any definition.  He is religious head as the Dharmadhikari of Srikshetra Dharmasthala. He has established more than 30 premier educational institutions, under the flagship of the SDM Educational Society / Trust. From the Gurukula to the Medical College, he has created a wide spectrum of Institutions consisting of business schools, Ayurveda Colleges, Naturopathy College and host of others. Other main office bearers of the society are Prof. S. Prabhakar, Sri D. Surendra Kumar, Prof. N. Vajra Kumar,  Sri D. Harshendra Kumar,  Prof. B Yashovarma, and Sri. Jinendra Prasad.

The group of magnificent buildings in a hilly terrain, very imaginatively laid out and landscaped by an eminent architect, displays a perfect blend of architectural and functional values creating conducive ambience to achieve very high academic and professional standards.

Apart from the customary well stacked library (with spacious reference and reading sections), 1 MBPS Internet facility and OFC backed campus networking, well furnished boys’ and girls’ hostels and modern sports facilities etc.,  SDMCET is proud of centers like, IT incubation center, high quality professionally managed production center with workshop facilities capable of fabricating and commissioning any precision research experimental facility.  TERI ( the energy research Institute, Delhi) collaborative clean technologies research center and the center for application of spatial information systems and tools, ASIST.

Various departments of the  institution are constantly engaged in application research projects in thrust areas like water, energy, resources management etc., generating annually on an average of Rs.25 lacs in testing, consultancy and sponsored Research projects.  The institution is actively engaged in purposeful interaction with industries and other institutions of higher learning.  It has MOU’s  with IBM, IBM-Rational Corporation, Government of Karnataka and  Sylvan Prometric, and has successfully trained a number of engineering graduates in different certificate courses in IT sector.  As part of MSDNAA (Microsoft Developers Network Academic Alliance) SDMCET has received over $ 32 million worth of Microsoft software for students and faculty training.
